As a fellow Bajan, Rihanna is basically my cousin in my head. So while I may be a little bummed to be dealing with the frigid cold in New York City, I’m always happy to live vicariously through her while she’s on our glorious island of Barbados. This month, the “Work” singer has been soaking up the Caribbean sun with her beau A$AP Rocky and while rocking the cutest vacation hairstyle I’ve perhaps ever seen: box braids full of multicolored charms.
Rihanna is the queen of experimentation thanks to her style and beauty choices, so we’ve seen her with many different haircuts, colors, and hair accessories. However, this may be the first time we’re seeing the “Pon de Replay” singer with braids studded with a rainbow assortment of beads. Each waist-length braid had multiple jelly-like beads in various colors and shapes woven in, spaced out along the plait. For example, one of her braids in the front had several transparent heart-shaped charms.
Based on the radiant glow of her skin, I can confidently say my style icon is living her best life at the moment. In true Rihanna fashion, she has not disappointed with her looks on this trip, either. With A$AP Rocky by her side, she also showed off a lace-trimmed red and pink lingerie set — perhaps from her very own brand, Savage x Fenty — to the Imagine music festival. She paired the vibrant garments with a hot pink shoulder bag that only complemented the charms on her box braids.

Her bright fire-engine red nails also matched the lace trim on her outfit perfectly. The classic shade is undoubtedly gorgeous, but we also eyed the short square-shaped tips. This isn’t our first time spotting the star with a short mani. In fact, for most of this year, she’s stayed loyal to the shorter shape, marking a distinct change from her past preference for longer manicures.
Box braids are the ultimate Black girl hairstyle for vacation, because you don’t have to worry about laying a lace frontal or closure, moisturizing your coils, or figuring out what you’re going to do with your hair each day. Riri proves that beads and charms aren’t just for kids, and that they’re one of the best accessories you can add to your braids year round.
